The Italy Adventure Begins... at UPS

For all the dreaming we've done about Italy… the pasta, the cobblestone streets, the weekend train rides, the history, the adventure… our first official step toward getting there happened in perhaps the least glamorous place imaginable:

UPS.

Not Rome. Not Venice. Not even an airport.

Just three kids, one parent, and a mission to get passport photos.

Simple enough, right?

If you've ever tried to get one child to look directly at a camera and smile on command, you already know where this story is headed.

Now imagine doing it three times in a row while reminding everyone not to blink, not to make silly faces, not to touch their siblings, and definitely not to wander around the store while someone else's photo is being taken.

The passport photo requirements are serious business.
Our children are not.

There were wiggles. There were reminders. There were negotiations. There was at least one child who refused to stand or even sit, resulting in her photo being taken, quite literally, on the floor.

Thank you, Photoshop.

But somehow, against all odds, we did it.

And the best part?

The photos turned out absolutely adorable.

Tiny passport photos may not seem like a big deal, but as I looked at those little faces lined up on the counter, it hit me: these aren't just passport pictures. They're the first official documents for the next chapter of our family's story.

These tiny photos represent future memories we haven't made yet.

Gelato drips on hot afternoons.

New favorite playgrounds.

Weekend adventures.

Learning our way around a new country.

The moments that will someday become the stories we tell.
And the start of a life full of adventure; one we had only dreamed of creating for our kids.

Of course, we're still knee-deep in paperwork. The photos are just the beginning. Next comes gathering documents, submitting applications, and checking boxes on what feels like an endless military PCS to-do list.

But for the first time, this move feels real.

The Italy adventure is no longer something on the horizon.

It's started.

One passport photo at a time.

We'll call that a win.
